Spring: Clean up your beds after the ravages of winter. Plant summer tubers and corms such as dahlias and gladiolus after heavy frost danger has passed, divide perennials if needed, keep an eye out for insect and/or disease damage starting on plants, fertilize perennials, lawn, shrubs, and ornamental trees and apply a light layer of mulch to all.
Summer: Water as needed. Keep track of insect/disease damage, fertilize your annual beds for best performance with a slow release fertilizer. Fertilize your annual containers about every 3rd or 4th watering for best performance, and prune any of the spring flowering shrubs like lilacs, rhododendrons, and forsythia after they have bloomed.
Fall: Rake any unwanted leaf or plant matter and add to compost pile, divide perennials if needed, plant bulbs for spring, and if you have roses mulch the crowns for overwintering. This is the best time for pruning.
Winter: Start gathering pictures and ideas for next year's gardens!
